April 26-28, 2006

April 26, 27 and 28 the second Seminar of Traditional Tribal Origins Ethnic Education Schools in Region III was held at SACOP, Maimpis in San Fernando, Pampanga. This was coordinated by NCIP RIII and fully funded by EVACF’s Mt Pinatubo Ashglaze sales. Entitled “TOE2S…. The Next Step” 107 participants resided at SACOP with an additional 50 non-residential participants plus speakers: tribal leaders, women leaders, government officials, literacy activators, teachers and chieftains. After the first “Towards Happy TOE2S” seminar in 2004 this meeting was again judged beneficial by all concerned. The gathering was vital to ensure the proper use, management and advancement of TOE2S facilities and their nurturing IP communities. The seminar was sponsored – in kind - by Unilever, Glaxo Smithkline, Seagull Phil, Hope for Children UK, Pediatrica and Holiday Inn (Clarkfield). Some pictures are below.

On January 24 we visited SACOP in San Fernando . After a clear explanation by sister Maya we drove then walked to several recipients of livelihood loans in Babo Pangula,Porac. These were 4 sari-sari stores. We enjoyed tasting some local delicacies. Last but not least: a bakery in Pio, Porac with fresh baked cookies, many kinds of bread and a delicious smell all around. Owner Laura Marquez showed how she had used the initial loan of P20,000 for buying the oven and mixing machines. With her hard work and perseverance its capitalization now reaches P100,000 and can now cater almost all the residents of the resettlement area. She earns an average net income of P800 per day. See pictures below.
