A Farewell letter from Director Salong M. Sunggod of NCIP Region 3, August 2011
Hi, Jenny...
Thank you very much for the memorable partnership for the Indigenous Peoples of Region 03. Am now at NCIP Region 09, Pagadian City to face the new challenge of my career.

Indeed, I felt sad in leaving Region 03, the IPs and my family. I do hope for the continued success of EVACF. Your contributions to the future and changing life of the Aetas are enormously significant, particularly the comprehensive educational assistance/support you have extended to them. The school buildings constructed numbering about fifty provided access to education for the Aetas who are living in the remote and far flung mountainous areas. Education is almost impossible for the marginalized Aeta children, but you have easily made it possible with utmost regard to their own cultural well being.

I am proud to be part of the team in the implementation of EVACF projects and activities from the start of its operation. I will treasure all the experiences I have gained from you.

Again, thank you very much for everything.

God bless you, your family and the EVACF officers, volunteers and supporters.

MMQ, a multi-cultural non-profit arts for charity organization, turned over the proceeds of its recently concluded theatre salon series to the EVA Charity Foundation whose advocacy assists indigenous peoples in Region 3 with the creation of schools, scholarships and micro-financing.

MMQ also donated the MMQ AETA Primary school in Mt. Terranus, Bayan-Bayanan in Bataan, EVA’s  40th school for our 20th year anniversary.  The MMQ school in Bataan was opened last year with profit from the MMQ Cabaret. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the three intrepid MMQ Board members Michelle (President), Sandra and Mari. shown on the right, after their extensive treck to reach the school. This new donation ensures the school's continued operations with school supplies, teachers’ salaries and maintenance.

We had more than 20 attendees.  Our target was just 20, but we got more! :)  Aside from tree-planting, our members also gave some things to the Aetas in the community.

May 2011 News - Towards Happy TOE2S, a huge success
participatns at the towards happy toes seminar 2011

The "Towards Happy TOE2S" seminar this year had the theme "CONSERVING HERITAGE WITH PRIDE, MEANWHILE OUTREACHING BEYOND".
This bi-annual seminar supports teachers and administrators of TOE2S schools supporting confidence through knowledge.
88 indigenous people & teachers attended with  12  NCIP officers in residence at Social Action Center Pampanga, SACOP, on  18, 19, and 20 May  with several day participants, guests and speakers. This training is a unique experience for Indigenous People to meet each other and question government & NGO officers and be trained to ensure the schools --TOE2S--in their communities  are nurtured well.
We wish to gratefully thank our sponsors without whom this seminar could not have taken place:
Anson Home Inc.; Elk's Lodge 761; Scandinavian Society, Philippines; Land Bank of the Philippines.

Light Up A Life, Light Up a School - NEWSFLASH
Battle of Bands ISM raising money for EVACF
Light Up a School, Light Up a Life is happy to announce that the Judd Hendricks Memorial School, Sitio Lumibao, Buhawen, Zambales has been selected to become the first solar electrified Aeta TOE2S school.

Along with the solar panels to generate the electricity, school computers and a multi-media player (with educational DVDs) will be installed for integration into the school curriculum.

All this has been made possible by the generous donation of funds raised at the student-run 2011 Battle of the Bands at the International School of Manila. The entirely student run concert Battle of the Bands 2011 raised a total of P450,000 for charitable causes through ticket sales, raffle and food sales.

Stay tuned for an exciting inauguration! Check out this page for more about the project. Manuele Cavalli-Sforza

NEWSFLASH: From the darkness of the Pinatubo eruption comes light
We are thrilled to announce that Manuele Cavalli-Sforza has successfully found funding for his project "Light Up a School- Light Up a Life". The project aims to bring clean and safe solar electricity to remote Aeta Traditional Origins Ethnic Education Schools (TOE2S) and will draw its funding from the much acclaimed 2011 Battle of the Bands at the International School Manila. In the process, the project aims to promote awareness of the Aeta and the value of their culture and traditions and to bring attention to the important work of the EVACF.  This will happily coincide with EVACF's 20th anniversary!

Details of the event will be announced at a later date.

April - SHOM EVA Aeta School under construction

Shom EVACF School being built
The construction is in progress of the SHOM-EVA Aeta School  in Sitio Bahawen, Maloma, San Felipe, Zambales.  Two classrooms are nearing completion. Toilets will also be supplied with a properly dug septic tank underground. This simple school will  be completed in time for the start of school and Dep. Ed has promised to supply a teacher there. As schools always start small, we do permit the teacher to live within the building as these TOE2S schools  are usually  in remote areas. Teachers utilise a part of a classroom to create sleeping quarters . Sometimes even the children stay in the schools during the week  to save them walking home each day. Communities arrange this themselves in co-operation with the teachers. We must ALWAYS REMEMBER that the school is OWNED BY THE AETA themselves. We anticipate that the school's official opening will be sometime in June, with a ceremony .
Details of the event will be announced at a later date.

22nd February - SACOP visit - report by Anne Bulters

On February 22, EVACF founder and three EVACF volunteers undertook a day trip to Pampanga to visit with some of the recipients of SACOP loans. EVACF has provided to SACOP PHP 650,000.00 interest free, SACOP in turn manages micro-loans to women in the Pampanga area, which are designed to help them develop their businesses. We were able to meet with some of the women who have received loans through SACOP and understand how relatively modest amounts have benefited their businesses and their families.
