TANNER TRUST CENTRE
RECENT NEWS: On 2 February, 2006 EVACF volunteers were invited to the launching of Bataan Indigenous Peoples Head Start Program at the Tanner Trust training center in Sitio Abucay, Bangkal, Bataan . This training center had been opened a year ago, financed by Tanner Trust through EVACF and it was good to see how it is now being used for different purposes as it was meant to. The Bataan IP Head Start Program is an initiative of NCIP and the local teachers. Non-IPs usually have preschool education (nursery to kinder) and educated parents to tutor them, unfortunately these two support factors are not present for the Aeta children. The program prepares the children (preschool) for primary school through providing para-teachers and school supplies.

This construction was funded with the help of the Tanner Trust (U.K) as a livelihood training centre. It opened in January 2005 and has successfully hosted livelihood training courses, primary healthcare courses and has even been used as a Pinoy Big Brother T.V. programme. One room is now used for part of each morning as a "HEADSTART" center for children and in the evening for adult literacy and numeracy classes. The surrounding grounds contain herbal plants and a tiny, outdoor, health-food facility around the tree dining area.
EVACF members and guests wait expectantly for the traditional dances by the children at the opening ceremony.
School supplies arrive for the HEADSTART program, delivered by officers of the NCIP donated through EVACF by "Hope For Children, UK".
