MMQ EVACF Aeta School
Mt. Terranus, Bataan (opened October 28th 2010)

The Inauguration of MMQ School on October 28th 2010.

On the 28th October 2010 some intrepid members of MMQ took to cars, then donkeys, then their feet to reach the new MMQ EVACF School with Dr Ramos and volunteers of EVACF. This school is in a very remote part of Bataan. They were rewarded with the smiling faces of the new pupils, the new School building, the inauguration ceremony and of course a celebratory lunch. MMQ raised funds for this school with their legendery Cabaret two years before and have been long looking forward to this school opening day. Thank you so much MMQ. The photos are a snapshot of the day thanks to volunteers Kim and Manni.

In June the MMQ President, Michelle Washington attended the Tuesday morning Pack and Yack with EVACF President and founder Jenny Wallum MBE. Michelle was inspired by the work of EVACF and went home to talk with her MMQ committee about EVACF.

As a result MMQ decided to support EVACF with their major fundraiser event of 2008, Le Cabaret.

The next step was a meeting between MMQ and EVACF at the Elks club to discuss the finer details of the proposal. We hoped Le Cabaret would raise enough money to fund a new school building to be called the MMQ School Building. The community at the existing school are already waiting for a new building and have students ready to enroll.

The Cabaret evening was wonderfully entertaining. We had the chance to launch our presentation "From Pumice Stones to TOES" and the enrapt audience gave their full attention to little Lilly's story. The event succeeded in raising sufficient funds to build a school room and a toilet..

At the end of October EVACF and MMQ met once more to formally present the check from MMQ to EVACF and a hand calligraphed certificate of appreciation from EVACF to MMQ was given with grateful thanks.

At the annual Christmas Pot luck lunch gathering of EVACF on December 2nd our President and Assistant Treasurer presented a check to Catherine Ramos, officer of Region III National Commission on Indigenous People to start the process of school building construction in January 2009. The aim is to be ready for the new school year May 2009. We wil keep you posted of the opening!
