St. Andrews and Viking Aeta Schools
Alunan, Sta Juliana, Capas, Tarlac (opened May 2003)

News June 2010

This community has experienced an increase in population which has resulted in the Philippines government adding a third building, completing a full elementary school complex in this remote, thriving settlement, not far from the Mt. Pinatubo crater. The St. Andrew's Society (Manila) annually donates funds for school supplies and Stolt-Nielson Transportation Grp. Inc. recently took treats and school supplies there after braving the terrifying four wheeler route. Many of the new students came from the Happy Hansel and Fleet schools when families fled due to life threatening rebel versus government activities. A Korean Church has taken an interest in this school and is carrying out developments with more planned.

Background:

This school was funded by EVACF, helped by the Scandinavian Society Manila. Originaly there were just under 100 children, 3rd to 6th grade, studying in the two-room school which is situated in an Aeta community only a few kilometers from Mt. Pinatubo crater. A new roof was erected in July 2005 and here you can see a photo of the children during a visit in 2006.
